Stop At: Nine Miles, Jamaica

Bob Marley was born on February 6th, 1945. He died on May 11th, 1981. Visiting this small town is a priority for all tourists, cruise ship and stopover passengers alike from Ocho Rios, Falmouth, Montego Bay and from as far as Negril in the west. Nine Miles is a tiny village in hills of St. Ann where the reggae legend, Bob Marley was born, and fittingly, the place he’s now laid to rest.

Although Bob Marley moved to Kingston at age 13 to live with his mother and to advance his music career, he would often return to Nine Miles to get away from the fast pace life of Kingston. Home is where the heart is and Bob Marley wrote several of his hit songs when he was in St. Ann.

Nine Miles Jamaica was always his home and to have the full experience of Bob Marley; you will have to visit this village. A tour of this settlement will leave you with a greater understanding of the legend Bob became; in fact, the community today is pretty much how it was in Bob Marley’s early days. A Rastafarian tour guide will be on hand to guide you around the property and answer all your questions.

Still present, is his first home and the very bed he slept in as a young child also as an adult when he would return on his many “cooling out” visits. The rock that he used as a pillow, on which he would relax. Quite a few guests have said that they have felt the presence of Bob Marley.

The Nine Mile Tour includes his birth and resting place, what he liked to do and Mount Zion, the spot where he drew his inspiration from to write his songs. Visit the nearby Ethiopian church where his body was laid to rest with his guitar. Please remove your shoes before you enter as a sign of respect. Feel free to look around.

After Nine Mile Tour there will be a stop for lunch at one of our local jerk chicken Restaurants.

Stop At: Greenwood Great House, 435 Belgrade Ave, Montego Bay Jamaica

This sightseeing tour starts the moment you are picked up at your Montego Bay or Grand Palladium hotel by a well-trained and professional tour guide. Enjoy the coastal scenery as you make your way to the Greenwood community where you will find the Greenwood Great House.

In 1655 Hersey Barrett, an officer in the expedition commanded by Admiral Penn and General Venables, was sent by Cromwell's parliament to capture Hispaniola from the Spanish. It proved to be too strongly held so they took the easier prize of Jamaica. Hersey Barrett was granted lands in Jamaica and settled on the island. Unlike many of the original settlers the Barretts prospered and by the middle of the eighteenth century had become immensely wealthy, owning over 84,000 acres of land and over 2,000 slaves. When Edward went to live in England in 1795 accompanied by his brother Samuel and his sister Sarah (Pinkie), his cousin Richard Barrett remained firmly attached to Jamaica, becoming Speaker of the House of Assembly, Custos of the parish of St. James and a judge among other things.

Construction on Greenwood Great House commenced in 1780 and the house was completed by 1800 -- it was mainly used for entertainment. Today it is undoubtedly the most original structures left behind by the British.

Arriving at the property you are greeted by one of their friendly resident guides who will walk you to the old English Pub where you get checked-in. After about 5 minutes it will be time to embark on your one hour tour. In this Great House you will find original 17th and 18th Century museum pieces that were carefully and deliberately crafted by extremely talented craftsmen. Pieces includes a piano that was custom built for King Edward the 7th, rocking chairs, polyphons, etc. You actually picture yourself in the 1700s while doing this tour.

At the end of the tour, feel free to relax for awhile and have a beer in the pub.

A stop at Scotchies Jerk Centre where you can purchase your lunch is possible depending on the resort that you are staying.
